Sustainability
Building a sustainable supply chain together
At Nedcargo, we believe that the future is sustainable. Every day, we take steps to make our own processes more sustainable and to help customers do the same. Our mission is clear: an efficient and environmentally friendly supply chain, from energy and transport to warehousing and logistical planning.

Green energy that makes a real difference
We are investing heavily in renewable energy. A large solar park now accounts for a significantly greener part of our total power consumption. At several locations, we generate our own green energy with solar panels. We use this energy directly in our daily operations. This is how we reduce our footprint without sacrificing reliability.

Strong results: CO2 reduction and Lean & Green
Our efforts are yielding measurable results. NedCargo has achieved a CO₂ reduction of more than 20 percent, good for a Lean & Green Star. In the years that followed, we further expanded that with an additional 10 percent reduction, which led to the achievement of a second Lean & Green Star.
This savings are the result of a broad package of measures, including:
- LED lighting and motion sensors in various warehouses
- Procurement of green wind energy
- Smarter transport planning so that we transport more in fewer trips
- Coaching drivers to drive more economically
- The use of additional LHVs
- Renewing the fleet with cleaner Euro 6 trucks

Sustainable transport that works in practice
We are continuously investing in cleaner mobility.
Sustainable modes of transport:
- Gas-powered trucks and electric trucks for daily trips
- Soon, a private charging station to further scale up electric transport
Smart modal shifts
- We are shifting transport from road to inland navigation where possible.
- This reduces CO₂ emissions and reduces the pressure on the road network
Performance efficiency:
- Longer window times reduce traffic jams and unnecessary emissions
- Driver training ensures economical driving
- Planning optimizations reduce empty kilometers

Smart and energy-efficient warehouses
Our warehouses are designed to consume as little energy as possible. They have:
- Energy efficient LED lighting
- Motion sensors
- Modern installations that reduce consumption
- Continuous optimizations for less environmental impact
Our new warehouse in Willebroek (Belgium) has been awarded the BREEAM Good label. This shows that the building meets high standards in terms of sustainability, energy use and build quality.
